Heather’s experience is a testament to the profound impact our caregivers have on patients and their families.

In January 2019, Sylvia sat with Dr. Maurice to discuss her stage 1 lung cancer diagnosis. “He must have spent two hours with me after my exam,” she marvels. “He empowered me with the information I needed to get through this.” Dr. Maurice also helped Sylvia improve her overall health to prepare her body for surgery.

Katherine, plagued by complications from years of smoking, sought the expertise of thoracic surgeon Dr. Maurice to identify a nodule in her lungs. Katherine’s case marked a milestone for Providence St. Joseph Hospital as she was one of the first patients to benefit from the philanthropically funded Ion system.

Providence South Division Philanthropy honored eight physicians at its annual Philanthropy Physician Champion Awards event on October 30 .
