Designated a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery
Congratulations to Providence St. Joseph Hospital on receiving accreditation as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery by the Surgical Review Corporation. This prestigious accreditation recognizes that Providence St. Joseph Hospital is among the best in the country, providing the highest quality of surgical care and patient safety.
In 2003, Providence St. Joseph was among the first 25 hospitals in the world to offer robotic surgery. Foundation board member, Ashok J. Kar, M.D., was the inaugural medical director for the Robotics Program, in addition to being the lead surgeon to perform the hospital’s first robotic case.
“When we acquired our first robot, most hospitals did not understand its benefits or potential,” says Dr. Kar as he reflects on the beginning years. “Today, we institute robotic surgery in multiple disciplines. Many of our physicians have taught, lectured and proctored robotic surgery all over the world.”
The hospital continues to build upon its robotics program thanks to philanthropic support from the community. In the last year alone, the Foundation acquired numerous surgical technologies to ensure surgeons have a more predictable experience with increased accuracy and better patient outcomes.
Earlier this summer, Providence St. Joseph reached another milestone of performing 10,000 robotic surgeries just before earning the prestigious designation. These indicators affirm the hospital’s commitment to providing patients with access to advanced medical technologies, expert physicians and excellent, compassionate care close to home.
Our future is bright in partnering with our donors who helped us bring the latest advances in robotic surgery. We celebrate this accomplishment with you — because your support has made a direct impact on patients and is helping Providence St. Joseph Hospital reach new heights.
