Celebrating Dr. and Mrs. Ashok Kar and Paige M. Baker, Esq

Providence St. Joseph Hospital Foundation is proud to announce the recipients of the 2024 Spirit of St. Joseph Award, a prestigious honor bestowed upon individuals demonstrating an unwavering dedication to the hospital’s mission. Awardees embody a deep sense of empathy, commitment to service and dedication to improving the well-being of others.

Dr. Ashok J. Kar and Mrs. Ava Kar

Dr. Ashok and Mrs. Ava Kar are second-generation members of the St. Joseph Hospital family, following his father, Jitendra Kar, M.D., who also was a physician leader here. They truly exemplify the Spirit of St. Joseph.

Dr. and Mrs. Kar have been donors since 1990 and have been active participants with the Foundation by hosting events, inviting patients to tour the hospital, sponsoring gala tables and much more. In addition, Dr. Kar has served on the Foundation board of directors and the Cancer Center Campaign Steering Committee, among others.  Dr. Kar has a distinguished career as a board-certified urologist. He served in many leadership roles at St. Joseph Hospital, including chief of staff and medical director of robotic surgery, and as an ex-officio member of the hospital board of trustees.

Patients, families and community members join with physicians and caregivers in enjoying the pianos that the Kars have donated: one in the main lobby of the hospital and one in the main lobby of the Center for Cancer Prevention and Treatment. This gift of music is a blessing to many and reflects the care that Dr. and Mrs. Kar have generously given over the years.

Paige M. Baker, Esq

Paige has been a committed supporter for decades. Since joining the board of directors in 2014, she has served on the Campaign Committee and the Care for the Poor Committee, playing a crucial role in the hospital’s philanthropic efforts. Paige and her husband, Bill, have been generous donors since 1981, and are proud Legacy Society and Community Commitment Circle members.

In her professional work, Paige helps others leave a legacy to charity, frequently benefiting our community. She is a dedicated ambassador and advocate for the hospital and often introduces others to the St. Joseph Hospital family.

We thank Dr. and Mrs. Kar and Paige Baker for their years of extraordinary service and support. They are inspiring role models who foster a culture of compassion within our community.
