A Heart for Service
Lou Stremick brings connection, compassion and commitment to his role on the Foundation board
For Lou Stremick, Providence St. Joseph Hospital is woven into the fabric of his life. It’s where all 13 of his grandchildren were born, where he and his wife, Nancy, volunteer and where he’s chosen to dedicate his time as a member of the Foundation board.
A devout Catholic, Lou also sees the hospital’s mission as a continuation of the work of the sisters who founded it. “St. Joseph is what a hospital should be,” he says. “The sisters have always been the backbone and their legacy still holds true. You feel it in the people — it’s a great organization.”
That admiration for the hospital’s culture was echoed by one of Lou’s closest friends: Raymond Casciari, M.D., a longtime St. Joseph pulmonologist, former chief of staff and former Foundation board member who introduced him to the Foundation team.
Lou officially joined the Foundation board in September 2024 and is now serving on the Heart and Vascular Leadership Council. As a semiretired business leader, he brings not only time and energy, but also a gift for making connections.
“Lou has this rare ability to bring people in — not just into a conversation, but into the heart of what we do,” says Katie McInerney, senior director of philanthropy. “People respect him, they trust him and they listen when he talks about St. Joseph because they know it comes from a genuine place. He’s deeply committed to seeing this hospital thrive. We’re so lucky to have him on the board.”
Living the mission
Lou’s deep connection to the hospital inspired him to take on a meaningful role beyond board service. As a volunteer with the No One Dies Alone program, he and Nancy sit beside patients with no family at the end of life, offering quiet comfort and presence when it’s needed most.
Lou and Nancy’s large, close-knit family is at the center of their lives. With four children and 13 grandchildren, they cherish every opportunity to spend time together. One of their favorite recent adventures was an Alaskan cruise with the entire family — a chance to celebrate, connect and reflect on what matters most.
